Spring Break 2013

rain.
So far I have worked, done my taxes, sorted through stuff, and been gifted new tires (thanks Mom!).
I also got to ride bikes in the rain with Josh, get ice cream, and go on a walk with my mom and the dogs. We went to see Steph at her new work, had the nanny-lets come over and visit, and hit the best thrift stores here. I scored a new flannel (might give it to Josh, seems too big), got a wreath for my front door, and a cute bandana. Oh, and had a lot of good food!

Loved by a tree

Spring break is next week.

Thoughts;
I locked the spider that has been living above my bathroom window outside on accident and paused to consider letting her back in for a few minutes. I kind of feel guilty for not.

Eolian

I spilled tea on my HP and ruined the keyboard a few weeks ago.
Chai and laptops do not mix.
It's not cute.
So now I am using my mom's old Acer Aspire...
I like it though.

I love my classes.
I love learning about soils and having fun labs and meeting new people.
I love wrestling sheep and making wet mount slides and focusing the microscope.
I love taking notes on soil textures and learning about pedons and parent materials.
I love going out to the farm and surrounding areas.
I love, love, love walking to class everyday.
The weather is beautiful, I love my university, and I will make due with what I have.

I seriously am so grateful for everything. I feel like I am right where I belong and wake up each morning feeling so blessed. I can wait. I can wait because I love where I am. I am learning so much and can wait to graduate. I can wait to start my career because I love what I'm learning.
I am just so excited. The weeks are flying by. I don't know how my other classes will be able to top these, but I'm sure they will.
Seriously, so excited.

As I walk to class I think about how some people will never experience this bliss. Some people don't get to go to school. Some people don't even get to feel safe walking to school, or work, or wherever. Some people don't get to see the beautiful sites I get to take soil samples from. In my polysci class I saw a picture of a man in Greece dousing himself with gas and lighting himself on fire. It is so sad because he felt like there was no hope other than to light himself on fire. Like, how bad can life be that you feel so strongly about ending it? Here I am singing to myself on my way to class on a beautiful morning, and there he is lighting himself on fire. It is heartbreaking. There is always hope. Always.

And on that note...

What you've missed:
I started working with GRUB in a community garden, and of course, I love it!
I saw the Sutter Buttes from a ridge and felt proud.
I hit the gym, and LOVE IT, such a nice facility.
Went to see Carley in Redding with Josh.
Let my hens out and they ate all the bugs.
Found Plaid Dragon and her song Dog Physics. On repeat.

I'm at a coffee shop.

In the past two weeks I have:
Gone to Fort Bragg.
Packed up.
Moved to Chico.
Started Chico State.
Fallen deeper in love.
Cried.
Laughed.
Grown.

My house has a lot of quirks. Right now I look like I am chaiing it up, but really I am using the free wifi to post and do homework. I'm reading about really depressing statistics about HIV incidences increasing and life expectancy rates dropping. How does this relate to agricultural ecology? I'm not sure, which is why I am taking the class.
It feels good to be back in the swing of things. I love getting to walk to class. I love living close to campus. I love my classes. I love my major. I love the friends I have already here. I love the idea of making more. I love Chico State and all God is doing here. I love it!
Living on my own (sans roommate) is tough but I think I will get used to it.
Thank God for Netflix and Anouk!

Thoughts;
Home - ES&MZ

Oh, yea...I got chickens!
Spartacus, Pantoufle, and X.
Josh named his Spartacus. The name makes me intimidated by her and makes everyone refer to her as "he".
Pantoufle looks like Anouk. I named Anouk after the daughter in Chocolat. Anouk's imaginary kangaroo in the movie is called Pantoufle. In the book it is a rabbit. In my backyard it is a chicken.
X is to be named by ma frend.
My yardbirds should start laying as the days get longer!

Black Tuesday

  1. Today I gave my horse away.
  2. She'll have a good home, be used, and be loved.
I feel like crying.
I am crying.

Sacrifice.
